BOP CARES – HELPING THE PUNTA CANA COMMUNITY DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

BOP Cares is a foundation based in Holland which is dedicated to helping the most vulnerable communities in the Punta Cana area. These communities often need regular support for basic necessities such as food, clothing, medication, and more. Under ‘normal’ circumstances, these families are struggling to survive, and they certainly aren’t equipped to deal with a global crisis. The COVID-19 pandemic has hit these communities extremely hard. Strict quarantine measures have been implemented, meaning that families have lost any possibility to earn and provide for their children. Government help during the pandemic is available to some, but this is not enough to cover all basic expenses.

The BOP Cares team have been working hard to assist as much as possible!

BOP Cares have so far sent food packages to over 50 families. These food packages include food staples and toiletries such as:

Rice

Spaghetti

Beans

Tomato Sauce

Fruit

Sanitizer

Vega Mouth Caps

Toilet Paper

School Supplies

The BOP Cares team deliver the food packages following strict social distancing guidelines. They will continue to deliver more packages as the quarantine continues. If you would like to donate supplies (nonperishable) or make a cash donation, please get in touch!

BOP Cares Internship Program!

Before the COVID-19 quarantine, the team at BOP Cares were beginning to implement their internship program for older school students. This program will provide students with vital work skills enabling them to find work and help build a successful future. Although they are unable to continue with the internship program at this time, they are still working in the background with the infrastructure, so that once quarantine has been lifted, they will be ready to take on their first participants!

Casita Linda School and Community Center!

BOP Cares are also continuing work with their Casita Linda project. Casita Linda is a school and community center that will be built to become a community hub in the town of Veron! They plan to offer school classes, as well as community events and activities for children. These local children would otherwise be on the streets as their families can’t afford to send them to school. They still have a lot of work to do even in lockdown. Planning and design of the building, and creating the activity program are providing plenty to do!

Get involved!

The BOP Cares team see first-hand how grateful these families are to receive help. If you are interested in getting involved with any of BOP Cares projects, you can find out more and contact the team at www.bopcares.com.
