EXPLORE NATURE IN PUNTA CANA AND IN OTHER PARTS OF THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

a body of water

At BOP we just love the nature that surrounds us. Yes, Punta Cana is filled with great restaurants, hotels, resorts, and other cool spots, but there is also a whole lot of nature to be explored. It’s everywhere. Just follow us as we take you on a tour through nature in Punta Cana and the rest of the Dominican Republic.

Fauna

Flora and fauna go hand in hand. So, let’s start with the animals in nature first. Where are they in Punta Cana? We already informed you about the humpback whales that you can see pass by at certain times a year. From January to March, you are able to spot them here too as they are on their way to Samana.  You can also spot sea turtles. When the sea turtles lay their eggs, volunteers in Punta Cana protect their nests first. When the first eggs hatch, they set the baby turtles free in sea. You can also spot turtles at certain times a year when you visit the turtle sanctuary on Isla Saona. You can even spot flamingos in a bay at times! Find out more about going to Isla Soana here.

Actually, the street dogs and street cats are also part of nature. They are not always considered as such and that is why it is great that there are organizations like Rescatame that help these loving animals find homes.

Nature in Punta Cana

In our article on caves and lagoons, we gave you a taste of the beautiful nature in Punta Cana. But also, in the rest of the Dominican Republic there is so much beauty to be discovered. Explore Los Haitises. An impressive rainforest, where beautiful beaches are also in the near proximity! The sounds of the birds will fill your ears with a soothing sound. Find out how to get to this special place here. But a visit to Samana is worth it when you are a true nature lover. At Samana you can sleep in a tree house village in a tropical jungle. Samana is also the place where waterfalls around. The lulu waterfall is one of them. Even though it does not always have water, but when it does it is an amazing place to swim in. Bonus: there is also a swing!

A walk on Macao beach

Beaches are the nature in Punta Cana people expect, so it would be weird to exclude ‘em. We have so many good beaches, all specialized in different purposes. Beach clubs, parties, weddings, horse rides, exclusive tanning, surfing, water sports, lounging, we’ve seen it all. One of our favorite beaches is Macao Beach, a bit in the north of Punta Cana. It’s quite an amazing beach. One of the most beautiful ones in the area. This is also the beach where a lot of people who live in Punta Cana come to surf and to relax – a perfect place for a nature walk. Soon we will feature an article on which we take you there for a delicious seafood lunch.
