In this edition of BOP places, we are going to feature one of our bucket list destinations in the Dominican Republic. A topic, that will be returning on BOP, since there are so many dreamy destinations on the island. Today it is all about Pedernales.

It seems like everyone is traveling nowadays. If you are not a digital nomad living and working in different places of the world it feels like your missing out big time. Instagram is full of beautiful pictures of people on mountains with incredible views of valleys full of trees. Or the remote beach photo, of a person wandering on white sand with palm trees in the background. Honestly, we love those pictures. In reality, we are dreaming of capturing the same feeling in our bucket list destination Pedernales.

Pedernales

In our articles, we talk about secret beaches and sleeping on them, and swimming in caves and lagoons. So, what else can we wish for? Well, there is more in Pedernales.

Pedernales is a province located in the South of the Dominican Republic. Of its 2,074.53 km², 1374 km² belong to the Jaragua National Park. Flamingo, turtles and different tropical birds have a home in the park. Waterfalls, where you can swim in, are also one of the special features of this natural reserve. Because the park is protected, there are no busy bars, restaurant or hotels. Just total tranquility in nature.

Eagles Bay

One of the places that is on our list, is the beautiful Bahia de las Aguilas (Eagles Bay). This bay that is situated in Jaragual National park is protected. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the Dominican Republic. Because it is untouched, there is an abundance of sea life present. The nearest town Pedernales, the capital of the province, is 25 KM away, that is why it is considered to be a deserted beach. From Cabo Rojo you can take a boat ride to Bahia de Las Aguilas.

Red Cape

Cabo Rojo (Red cape) is also a bucket list destination. The name comes from the presence of bauxite in the area. The beach of Cabo Rojo is breathtaking and the coral reef is one of the best-preserved ones in the Caribbean. Pedernales is a province that shows the many different landscapes the Dominican Republic has.

From Pedernales, you can travel to other beautiful places like the province Barahona, which we will in another article.

Pedernales is a long drive when you are located in Punta Cana since it is on the border of Haiti. It will take you 7 hours. There are also tours going to Pedernales. For example Colonial Tours, that has excursions to Bahia de las Aguilas.

Dream away with this destination and keep checking BOP, because we will give you an extensive travel report about our visit to Pedernales.
